WEATHER SYSTEMS
ANNOUNCING OUR NEW WEATHER SYSTEMS RESIDENCY
“Dancing work is a curious blend of dogged repetitive practice and mediumistic transmission. We need to be willing to wait, to fail, to not know, to be outrageous, disciplined, clairvoyant. We have to be willing to change, to abandon what we understood to be right. A new piece is a thing that has its own internal architecture, which determines what can successfully occur within it. It is like a weather system, where clouds are the visible result of the interaction of force and matter.” (Dana Caspersen, 2004, 'The Body Is Thinking')
ReadyMade Works is excited to announce Weather Systems, a new space residency for emerging to mid-career artists looking to develop their studio practice in an ongoing, consistent and supported manner. The Weather Systems residency supports artists to work across 6 months with weekly studio space and regular mentorship from choreographer and ReadyMade Works Director, Jane McKernan.
The aim of the Weather Systems residency is to support artists in NSW to develop a methodology of practice. The focus is on how to work in the studio rather than what is being made, developing practice rather than a specific project or endpoint, and should deepen the artist's inquiry and choreographic work. It could be life changing!
Application is via a short expression of interest form.
Support:
-
60 hours of studio space across 6 months
-
4 mentorship meetings/workshop time
-
A facilitated sharing at the conclusion of the residency
Timing:
-
Residencies will take place from August 2026 – January 2027 and studio time must be divided across the 6 months in a regular manner. Ideally, the artist would work in the studio two hours per week, but there is room for flexibility to support projects, work or other commitments. Studio time will be booked in negotiation with our studio manager and in relation to our bookings calendar.
-
Artists will meet with ReadyMade Works Director across the tenure
-
The sharing will happen in January 2027 and extra studio time has been allotted to support artists in that week
